In 1998 , Katrien Mampaey obtained a master's degree in Social Geography at the University of Leuven, Belgium. First she worked for ISEG , the Institute for Social and Economic Geography , at the University. Since 2001 she has been working at Visit Flanders, first as a policy advisor for social tourism and youth tourism, later as a head of three different departments: the Tourism for All Department, the Department of Direct Investments and since 2012 as head of the department that stimulate accessible tourism in Flanders. Since 2016 this department (Product Management Inclusive Tourism) is integrated in the regular department of Product Management, which has improved an inclusive approach of the theme of accessibility. As a head of this department, she advocates putting accessibility on the agenda of all new initiatives.
