Sven Michaelis studied architecture and medical engineering science at the Technical University Dresden in Germany.
He works for the Norwegian Mapping Authority and is the leader of the project "Register and Survey the Status of Accessibility in Norway" since 2010. The Norwegian Mapping Authority bears nationwide responsibility for geographical information and operates the national property registry.
In the framework of the project, a national standard for mapping of accessibility in towns and recreational areas was established and data are now continuously collected following this national standard. These data are published and freely accessibly for all people. They are used, amongst others, for municipal planning and by superior administrations for setting general guidelines and to produce statistics.
