Colette Fransolet

Colette works as a Universal Universal Accessibility Consultant, in Cape Town, with a Master's Degree in Industrial Design and a specialization in Universal Design.

Since 2015, Colette has been the South African Representative for SmartCities4All (SC4A), and the global G3ict initiative, and is also an IAAP accredited Level III Certified Professional (Expert) in Accessible Built Environments (CPABE). She is a board member of the Global Universal Design Commission (GUDC), a non-profit entity that was created to develop global standards for universal design of buildings, products and services. Most recently, Colette joined the Global Leadership Council (GLC) for IAAP.

Colette is currently part of two working groups as part of the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS), namely SABS TC59 / SC04 and ISO TC59 / SC16 and also participates annually as a speaker on Universal Accessibility at the University of Cape Town. (UCT) in the Disability Studies Program (MDIS) and is a regular visiting professor at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) for design students. She was also invited as a UA knowledge expert by the South African Minister of Justice and Correctional Services to serve on the Advisory Committee of the South African Law Reform Commission and participate in the investigation of the domestication of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) in South Africa. She has also led the research, drafting and development of a National Technical Requirement for the South African National Department of Transport, where she is also currently a member of the expert panel to assist the Department with specialized input related to Universal Access.
